Boy Helps Save Choking Dog

1By his own account 12 year old Brady Cole 2retains most of what he learns in school but not quite all of it.

“I’d say about like 65 percent.”

Not bad! And it’s this anti 3choking lesson that he learned in his 7th grade health class.

“It’s the 4Heimlich.”

That he not only remembered - but he used to save the life of his best friend Kyrie, an almost 3 year old mini golden doodle.

“The way we learned it was for humans. So I tried it on a dog.”

You see, the family was on a recent Mother’s Day hike - when...

“My brother actually realized that Kyrie was choking and he wasn’t acting normal.”

So without much thought Brady 5sprung into action.

“What I did was, I found his ribs, and found like the bottom of them, and made a fist I think. And I tried, and I, like went like this like three times and it sounded like he spit something up.”

Brady did it!

“I didn’t really know if I did anything. After a while I noticed that I actually did something and like I had no 6faith and… that, that would work, so...”

But you tried it anyway.

“Yeah and it did work and I was pretty happy.”

And now, so is Kyrie. Brady says if he 7learned one big lesson from this 8experience. It’s...

“School could be important and you can use it in your future to really help you and help others and so it is important to 9pay attention.”

Perhaps that’s the best lesson of them all.
