Monkeypox Declared A Public Health Emergency In US

Nearly three months after the first case of 1monkeypox was reported in the US, the Biden administration has now 2declared the virus a 3public health emergency.
“What that’s gonna do is gonna help 4accelerate the vaccine production and 5distribution. This includes new dosing strategies that have the 6potential to increase the number of available doses by 7fivefold.”
To make the vaccine supply go farther, officials are considering allowing one one-dose vial of the vaccine to administer up to five 8separatedoses. That would involve injecting the vaccine into the skin itself rather than just 9under the skin as it is now.
“About 1.6 million Americans are in that high-risk group that needs to be, that should get vaccinated.”
More than 6,600 probable or confirmed cases have been detected in the US since mid-May and cases continue to climb. One 10criticism of the response has been the delay in 11bulk ordering the monkeypox vaccine.
“There is one small 12manufacturer in Denmark that’s making vaccines for the whole world. They’ve very limited[UNCLEAR] capacity.”
150,000 additional monkeypox vaccine doses are expected to arrive in the US in September, earlier than expected.
“I still remain 13confident that we’re gonna 14get our arms around this.”
