Judge Unseals Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Search Warrant

On Friday, a Florida judge 1unsealed documents related to Monday’s search at former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago 2residence. According to the 3property receipt, the FBI recovered 11 sets of 4classified documents, including some marked “5top secret” and 6SCI, or 7sensitivecompartmented information. These types of classification are among the nation’s most highly sensitive.

“They are conducting an 8independent investigation following the law protecting our classified information as they would for anyone whether that was a member of Congress, whether it’s a staff person, whether it’s a former President.”

But Trump’s allies claim he didn’t have classified documents at Mar-a-Lago because he 9declassified documents before leaving the White House. Trump said his team had been 10cooperating with federal investigators and the agents didn’t need to “11seize” anything. The unsealed documents outline three federal crimes that the Justice Department is looking at as part of its investigation. They include possible 12violations of the 13Espionage Act, 14obstruction of justice, and criminal handling of government records. Friday morning, Republicans expressing how they felt about what they called the FBI’s “15raid.”

“The FBI raid of President Trump is a complete 16abuse and 17overreach of its 18authority.”

Also, during the search on Monday, agents found a document about 19pardoning Roger Stone, a Trump ally who was convicted in 2019 of lying to congress before its probe of potential Russian 20interference in the 2016 election.
