300 Couples Celebrate 50 Years of Marriage
300쌍의 부부, 결혼 50주년 축하해
Fifty years. A half century. It is an entire lifetime and for the 1approximately 300 couples celebrating their 2golden anniversary at Holy Name Cathedral. These have been 50 years filled with children and grandchildren, joy and laughter, sadness and pain. And while their hands may not be as smooth as they were in 1972, they are still joined 3for better and for worse.
“I came here I was 20 years old. And I met those[this] guy… we’d known each other only for two weeks.” - “That’s it!”
4Renewing their vows to each other during a highly 5emotional service, these couples from all over the Chicago area were joined by their families during this very special celebration.
“It was very emotional.” – “Yes.” – “Hadn’t thought about coming here, but when you’re in there and you start thinking about 50 years gone by and all the experiences we had together.”
In an era where it seems not many 6are willing to 7put in the hard work that leads to a 50th wedding anniversary, these couples 8shared some of their secrets. Both 9serious and not so serious.
“What’s the secret of 50 years of marriage?”
“Never go to bed angry.”
“We may not be lucky at cards, but we’re always lucky in love.”
“Be it negative or positive you have to 10communicate. You can’t 11read each other’s minds, so you have to communicate.”
“A sense of humor is very important.” – “Do you agree?” - “And I learned one thing: she’s always right.”
