FCC Cracks Down On Unwanted Spam
FCC Cracks Down On Unwanted Spam
FCC, 원치 않는 스팸 단속에 나서
The 1Federal Communications Commission voting 2unanimously to 3adopt 4new rules to keep 5scam texts off your phone. Phone providers must 6block text messages from phone numbers that appear to be: 7invalid, 8unallocated, or 9unused. The FCC also saying carriers will be required to block messages from phone numbers that claim to never send text messages and numbers that the government has 10identified as not used for texting.
“This isn’t gonna be like an 11instant fix. It really takes time to make progress.”
This move 12mirrors the government effort made to shut down illegal 13robocalls. Now a major increase in 14spam and text messages seems to have taken robocalls’ place.
“But it’s really difficult to 15enforce it 16effectively and to get everybody 17on the same page because of technical challenges but also because you don’t wanna be stopping legitimate communications.”
Authorities say scam robotexts may be even more dangerous than robocalls because the texts may contain 18malicious links to software that could infect your phone.
FCC Chairwoman, Jessica Rosenworcel saying quote, “Scam artists have found that sending us messages about a package you never ordered or a payment that never went through along with a link to a 19shady website is a quick and easy way to get us to engage on our devices and 20fall prey to fraud.”
