First Woman to Win Three Marathon Victories in Flying Pig Marathon
“I can't describe it. I truly can't.”
The 30-year-old Cincinnati native making history as the first woman to win three 2marathon 3victories.
“It's really not so much about winning. It's about the fact that I set goals for myself and seeing that I can 4accomplish them is really what matters.”
First time pig 5participant, 32-year-old Jason Salyer(Sallyer) of Tip City, Ohio…
“I'm pretty damn tired.”
6Clinching this year's men's marathon title, beating a close second from Covington native William Cadwell.
“Decided to look over my shoulder, and he was only 10 meters behind me.”
But the biggest 7hurdle of the day….8stormy weather drowning out the competition as heavy rain and lightning made for 9treacherousconditions.
“We were literally five minutes before the race was going off. Had not made a final decision yet.”
But race officials still gates a pink light, sending runners off their marks as 10scheduled. And despite a 11shelter in place, issued less than 30 minutes in.
“We reminded them all that was a personal decision.”
“You just had to embrace it. You had to accept it.”
Sunday's winning 12Swine say the rain didn't bother them anyway.
“I felt like safe out there, knowing that there was a bunch of 13volunteers, like, if I did need to step off or want to step off, they would find me somewhere to go.”
“We heard lightning pretty early, but we weren't going to let it affect us. I mean, we're out here to finish, so it's exciting.”
….and finish. They did the 14sideline squealers, 15cheering them on, braving the elements, pushing to the end, 16wrapping up another flying pig for the record books.
