“There was a 1commotion in the building next door. We could hear people getting 2progressively louder and louder.”
That's when Gerri Mazdra and her husband opened the 3drapes of their hotel room to see this.
“There were just tons of people 4streaming out of the 5side entrance, which is right where our room 6overlooked.”
Gerri thinks she saw around 60 to 70 young people 7come out of the building.
“I think it had to be 8horrible, the way that we heard them 9screaming and the way that they were 10hugging each other. As a mom myself of an older teenager, it was just 11absolutely 12heart wrenching to see that.”
She didn't hear any 13gunshots, but she still thought 14gun violence was at the center of the commotion.
“I 15suspected guns.”
In About an hour, the scene was quiet. The Waterloo, Illinois couple 16went back to bed.
“We just wanted 17a night away, so we stayed here.”
“Will you come back downtown again, 18spend the night?”
“Yeah, we will. I mean, we love St. Louis, so we'll be back. I mean, 19unfortunately, those types of things can happen anywhere, so no, it didn't 20scare us away.”
