Hotel workers continue to strike, 4demanding an 5immediate $5 an hour 6raise, an 7additional $3 an hour for years 8served, as well as 9improvements in health care and 10retirement.

“It's about making sure that the people that make the 11tourism economy what it is are able to live in these cities, right? and not have to 12commute. Two, three hours to Apple Valley, Victorville.”

13Contracts for 15,000 workers under Unite Here Local 11 14expired Saturday. The hotel's saying the union has not been willing to 15budge on its demands.

“They're the 16backbone of this industry and if the hotels actually respected them, they would sign the contract.”

Many guests at the JW Marriott LA Live say that the strike has caused minor 17inconveniences, but not enough to 18dampen their experience.

“Hotel food places are closing up early, so it makes it hard, so we kind of got to travel out a little bit to go to do that.”

Just six blocks away at the LA Grand Hotel, frustrated workers on strike temporarily blocked a food delivery truck from entering the hotel. 

“Some of the guests we spoke to say they don't mind the minor inconveniences because they agree with their cause.”

Cosplayer Sunflower, who traveled from the Bay area, says she 19sympathizes with the workers as she too, pays 20astronomical rent prices.

“I understand wage and having to with high housing prices and everything going up with inflation, it's very difficult to make a life of your own, and so I hope it goes well for them.”
