Actress Turns Artist During Lockdown
Actress Turns Artist During Lockdown
락다운 기간 동안 화가로 변신한 여배우
"I always was 1drawing 2growing up, but I never really gave myself 3permission to think of it as anything beyond something that I did for myself."
Actress, writer, and director Lisa Edelstein has added "artist" to her 4resume. She began when she was 5stuck at home during the pandemic drawing, with magic markers.
"So I got myself some adult coloring books, and I just hated all the images in them. They were not interesting to me, so I thought 'I'll just make my own coloring book.'"
Edelstein turned to old family photos, finding images that felt more 6spontaneous and 7honest than the carefully 8constructed poses popular today.
"Sometimes they're posed, because even in the pose, the people that are in the picture can't avoid telling their story. But mostly they are 9caught moments."
Markers 10gave way to 11watercolors and larger pieces and eventually a New York show last year. Edelstein is 12self-taught, though she 13creditsher husband, painter Robert Russell, for not just 14encouraging her, but 15valuing her work as much as his own.
"Little by little, I 16realized, like, my version of expression is as valid as anybody else's. I think that doesn't mean it's great art, but it certainly has a place in the world."
