Luke Scott and his friends visited the Tropicana one last time Sunday night. 2Despite them 3walking away with a few $5 chips, the Tropicana is not selling them. You have to 4earn them at a table.
"They did not want to 5exchange a chip for money, so we just kind of did our own little work around, were able to get a chip and now we're happy."
However, poker chips are the only 6mementos people are walking out of the hotel or casino with during its last days.
"We went into the gift shop, nothing left."
A Bally's 7representative tells Channel 13 they sold out of everything with a Tropicana logo on it. This is what the Tropicana gift shops look like. Everything being sold is 8generic Las Vegas 9merchandise, and most items are 10on sale. Casino merchandise 11collectors like Robert McKee has mementos for more than 150 casinos including the Tropicana. He says he's thankful he bought merchandise when it was still available and says it's sad to see it go.
"Knowing what Tropicana was and knowing that I had the history of growing up going there, just like all the other classic casinos, it's sad."
If you're still interested in getting Tropicana mementos, you'll have to turn to 12resale sites like eBay. Some $1 poker chips are going for less than $10 now, but 13limited-edition chips are going for more than $1,200. McKee says he only 14expects that number to rise once the Tropicana is 15torn down.
