People always say giving is better than receiving, I am a true believer in this statement. I believe that you should give of yourself what ever you can each and everyday because the benefits that you will reap are phenomenal. One of the easiest ways to give back to someone is by saying thank you. Think back to the last time you were thanked? Most people cannot remember, but what is worse is that most people cannot remember the last time they thanked someone else. Saying thank you is often lost in today¡¯s society, but those two little words can make a huge difference in someone¡¯s life. Everyday there are countless moments when you can say thank you; whether you are given a gift or the door is opened for you, but not everyone thinks about these little situations and the words are forgotten. This past year I applied for a scholarship program that required me to be chosen from a group of my peers to represent the Palm Desert area at the state capital. I was not chosen to represent our area, but I was given an alternate spot in case our representative couldn¡¯t make it. I then decided that I should write a thank you note to the scholarship program for giving me the opportunity. To my surprise about three weeks later I received a letter back from the scholarship program which said that the representative from Hemet could not attend and that because I showed such interest in the program they would rather have me in the program than Hemet¡¯s alternate, this was against the rules for the program, but they were willing to make the exception for me. It was never my intention to take the spot away from Hemet¡¯s alternate, but the thank you note that I thought was trivial ended up being my ticket into the scholarship program. Saying thank you sets you apart nowadays, as time has progressed human society has become rude and ungrateful. To be truly happy in life, I do believe that you must build good relations with the people you surround yourself with. By simply saying thank you, you change others perceptions of yourself, you aren¡¯t just the norm, and most importantly you gain respect; all things that are keys to creating bonds with other human beings. These two little words have made such a difference in my life. I am often regarded differently than other kids my age because I do always say thank you. It is the simple things in life that are really important. I believe in saying thank you, and you should too. You never know whose day you will brighten, or how you will affect someone just by saying two little words.
