However, Team USA came out with a fire in their belly in the 4second half, looking for that 5equalizer, finding it around the hour mark with a well-taken 6header by team captain Lindsay Horan, making it her second goal of the tournament so far. And so Team USA went looking for a winning goal. They almost went ahead moments later with a goal by Alex Morgan, 7ruled out for offside.
Now, a lot of excitement here where I am in the Sydney fan zone. Here's what some of the fans had to say about the result.
"Yeah, I was 8terrified. I thought they were going to lose because the Americans seemed really 9hyped up for this and they were looking like they were going to kill us."
"And of course, the Americans won last time 10against the Dutch also. So, it was a good match."
"I'm hoping to see more of that fire from Horan, that response, a little bit of 11tiki-taka in the middle. We love to hear that response, especially from the strong women in the US."
So many 12superlatives to describe this Team USA side, so many records that they have 13under their belts already, and some 14extraordinary 15stats that follow them around. They're going for their third championship, their third World Cup victory 16in a row. Nobody else has done that before.
When they went one nil down in the 17first half, it was the first time they'd trailed in a World Cup game since 2011 and equaling it up at one one. That means that they haven't lost a game at the World Cup in 19 matches. They've never lost a group stage game before. What an extraordinary team.
Next game for them is against Portugal. They'll see who they play in the next round after that, perhaps Argentina or Sweden.
