Four days after the 3shooting at the 4Gorge Amphitheater that claimed two lives and 5injured three others, the 6suspect, James Kelly, sat in front of a judge. 

¡°Do you understand your 7charge with 8murder in the first degree?¡±

New documents are 9shedding light on what led up to the 10deadly 11encounter. They say Kelly took 12shrooms before the festival and was 13hallucinating that the world was 14coming to an end. Documents say he and his girlfriend left the 15venue, and when they made it back to Kelly's truck, he 16pulled out a gun and started 17shooting, killing Brandy Escamilla and Jocelyn Ruiz, who were walking in the area. Kelly shot and hurt three others, including his girlfriend, but not before she could call 911 to report that he had a gun, which 18made a big difference to the officers responding to the scene. 

¡°I believe it was a short phone call, but at least it was able to get us information that we need of what was actively happening in the area of that campground.¡± 

Grant county was not the head of 19security for the event, and some still wonder how a gun made its way into the 20campgrounds. 

¡°There is security there. What the details of that security are, I'm not specifically certain. It's a private security firm that does do that more for the Live Nation concert venue.¡±

And while Sheriff Crete was proud out of the 21joint response, he says there will always be 22takeaways to hopefully prevent another 23tragedylike this in the future. 

¡°We always want to learn from situations like this what we could do better to hopefully be a 24preventative measure in the future.¡±
