Over 75 miles long and 7 miles wide... Hubbard glacier is 15known as the largest glacier in North America that's created by 16tidewaters. Unlike other glaciers, it appears to 17defy the 18effects of 19climate change by actually growing in size.
¡°I think it's awesome. You know, normally we only see these things in pictures right. So to come out here and experience it. I don't know. I don't have words for it. It's pretty amazing.¡±
The Hokulea is now more than 28-hundred miles north of Hawaii. To get close to Hubbard glacier... It's a more than 20-mile sail from Yakutat boat harbor through Disenchantment bay.
¡°So, the boat captain is trying to get us as close as possible to Hubbard glacier. It is almost 300 feet tall, and we're told it's bigger than Moanalua bay. Quite a 20magnificent sight. The deep blue ice shows just how 21dense and 22packed it is.¡±
