Education Decline A Major ¡®Wake-Up Call¡¯ ±³À° ¼ºÃëµµ Ç϶ô, Å« °æÁ¾ ¿ï·Á There¡¯s growing concern about the pandemic¡¯s 1impact on America¡¯s children as parents and educators pore over the latest results from The Nation¡¯s Report Card. ¡°We 2are on the cusp of losing a generation of our children.¡± The findings are based on the National Assessement of Educational Progress reading and math exams which 3are conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics, a branch of the U.S. Department of Education. The report looked specifically at fourth and eighth grade students and was the first since 2019. ¡°So much of this is 4socioeconomic, some 5district 6fared much better than others and unfortunately due to 7zip code is where you saw kids kind of 8get lost in the fray.¡± ¡°(Good) afternoon. Welcome.¡± More than 50 states and 9jurisdictions took part in the 10assessment showing the largest decline in math scores since the initial trial in 1990, according to the center¡¯s commissioner. In fact, no state or large urban district showed improvements in math with some decline also showing up in reading scores. ¡°If this is not a 11wake-up call for us to 12double down efforts and improve education, even before it was... before the pandemic, then I don¡¯t know what will.¡± Education Secretary Miguel Cardona believes the results are partly a symptom of decades of 13underinvestment but says part of the solution is to provide better 14compensation for teachers. ¡°Let¡¯s start honoring the profession, making sure we¡¯re paying our professionals a 15competitive salary and we are not gonna deal with 16shortages.¡± 1 impact ¿µÇâ 2 be on the cusp of ~ÇÏ·Á´Â Á¤Á¡¿¡ ÀÖ´Ù 3 be conducted by ~°¡ ½ÃÇàÇÏ´Ù 4 socioeconomic »çȸ°æÁ¦ÀûÀÎ 5 (school) district ±³À°±¸ 6 fare (ƯÁ¤ »óȲ¿¡¼) ´õ ÀßÇÏ´Ù 7 zip code ¿ìÆí¹øÈ£: ¿©±â¼´Â »ç´Â Áö¿ªÀ» ÀǹÌ. 8 get lost in the fray ³¸® Åë ¼Ó¿¡¼ ±æÀ» ÀÒ´Ù 9 jurisdiction °üÇÒ ±¸¿ª 10 assessment Æò°¡, ½ÃÇè 11 wake-up call °æÁ¾ 12 double down °°æÇÏ°Ô ¹Ð¾î ºÎÄ¡´Ù, ¹è°¡ÇÏ´Ù 13 underinvestment °ú¼Ò ÅõÀÚ 14 compensation º¸»ó 15 competitive salary °æÀï·Â ÀÖ´Â ±Þ¿© 16 shortages ºÎÁ· »çÅÂ
