Except in Half Moon Bay.¡± ¡°Yeah, I always tell people back home, I¡¯m like, it¡¯s, it¡¯s the Super Bowl of pumpkins.¡± Travis Gienger drove his massive pumpkin 35 hours from Anoka, Minnesota, the Halloween capital of the world, to the pumpkin capital of the world. ¡°This size, I mean, I, I¡¯ve been hitting it with like 4fertilizer 14 times a day.¡± Holding the 2020 champion title for a pumpkin weighing in at 2350 pounds, he¡¯s hoping lightning will strike twice. ¡°They all said it was a 5once in a lifetime type thing. And gosh, hopefully we can do it two in a lifetime type thing.¡± But he¡¯s up against some heavy 6competitors. ¡°It¡¯s estimating to be around 1500 pounds.¡± Cindy Tobeck, the 2016 champion out of Washington, is back for more this year. ¡°These take so much care. And they also take a lot of water, which I know is a 7challenge here in California. I¡¯ve got my own well at home. So 8unlimited free water is to my 9advantage over the California growers.¡± This third grade teacher says, in her time away from the classroom, she¡¯s watering 150 gallons per plant per day. And it¡¯s the people of Half Moon Bay that keep her coming back every year. ¡°The community of Half Moon Bay, their roots are in 10agriculture and, and pumpkin farming specifically. And they honor and love the pumpkin farmers.
