US Basketball Star Brittney Griner Appears In Russian Court

As American basketball star Brittney Griner is led to a Russian court for the first hearing of her 1trial...

¡°It¡¯s really difficult.¡±

... her wife 2struggles at home.

¡°Because it¡¯s a hundred... it¡¯s over 130 days and BG¡¯s still not back.¡±

The 3prosecution argues Griner 4had the intent to 5import 6cannabis oil into Russia, when she 7was detained at a Moscow airport on February 17th. They say Griner was carrying two 8cartridges, totaling less than a gram of hash oil.

¡°... [INAUDIBLE] most cases, it wouldn¡¯t even be prosecuted in the United States.¡±

While the Kremlin claims the case is not 9politically 10motivated. Some have speculated that Griner could be released in a possible 11prisoner swap but her lawyers said they 12were unaware of any plans.

¡°The United States government, at the very highest levels, is working very hard [INAUDIBLE] to bring Ms. Griner as well as all wrongfully detained U.S. citizens safely home.¡±

But Griner¡¯s wife 13has her doubts.

¡°I don¡¯t think the maximum amount of effort is being done.¡±

She and other activists are urging President Joe Biden to 14strike a deal with Russia to get Griner home.
