US Support for Ukraine Stumbles

Amid an increasing 1civilian 2death toll in Ukraine, come possibly 3mixed signals from the US. In the Senate -- a plan to send aid to Ukraine has 4rare 5bipartisan support.

¡°6For heaven¡¯s sake, let¡¯s get Ukraine funding done 7ASAP.¡±

¡°They need this help right now.¡±

But, the chamber¡¯s unlikely to vote on the bill until next week. Lawmakers are working to 8bypass Senator Rand Paul¡¯s request for an 9oversight 10amendment. Another mixed signal involves Finland. Its President says he and the Prime Minister want their country to join NATO.

¡°Finland is a regional security provider and would further 11strengthen NATO as a future ally.¡±

¡°The United States would support a NATO application by Finland and our Sweden, should they choose to apply.¡±

But, the Biden administration isn¡¯t voicing the same support for Ukraine¡¯s membership.

¡°It show the 12double standard of the all¡¦ 13alliance.¡±

NATO allies 14have an obligation to 15defend each other. Sending alliance troops to Ukraine could start World War Three.
