Marilia Mendonça, one of Brazil¡¯s biggest contemporary singers and a Latin Grammy winner, died in a plane crash on the way to one of her concerts. Four other people, including her uncle and her producer, also died in the incident.

The plane crashed between Mendonça¡¯s home town of Goiânia and Caratinga, a small city 350 kilometers north of Rio de Janeiro. The aircraft was around 11 kilometers from Caratinga, the singer¡¯s destination for that evening¡¯s gig. People launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

Mendonça was 26, and she had a two-year-old son. In 2020, she was the most listened to artist in Brazil on Spotify, and she performed in a series of online gigs. One of them set the record of the most-watched live stream in the world, with 3.3 million viewers on YouTube.
